My practice is multidisciplinary. I begin with sculpture or installation as I explore patterns described by experts who describe systems of thought. This year I started researching social media and the spread of information. French philosophers Deleuze and Guattari's book "A Thousand Plateaus" suggests that information is shared similar to rhizome patterns. Our society has been reeling from social media's spread of lies, conspiracy, and hatred. The attempted coup of the US government caused me to consider how social media spreads unabated, allowing groups whose sole purpose is to spread unrest challenging our very democracy and our notion concerning freedom of speech. I have created one installation on this subject, "What Grows in Your Heart?" This piece is constructed with wire using patterns found in rhizomes such as Bermuda grass. It is suspended from the ceiling with silk and crochet thread attached to plastic mesh support. The thread attachments are functional as they hold the wire sculpture but metaphorical because rain allows roots to grow.
